Alexanderpop place32.058889, -098.205833Located at the intersection of State Hwy 6 and Farm Road 914 in the southern part of Erath County, it was named Harper's Mill in 1876 when a post office was first created there. John D. St. Clair was the first postmaster, and was still serving in 1881, when the name was changed to Alexander. Possiably named after a railroad official. The Railroad laid out the townsite after buying land from W. C. Keith in 1880. Alexander grew to have 21 businesses and a population of over 300 in 1890. The number of businesses declined due to the railroad reaching Stephenville. In 1940 the population was about 200, there was a post office, and about 5 businesses. The Post office closed before 1970. There is nothing there today, except a community of homes.USGS & Peggy

Thurber Cemeterycemetery32.512778, -098.417500These directions are taken from the Erath County Cemetety Book done by Cawyer and Hudson and these cemeteries were last surveyed in the late 1970's. This Cemetery is located about 1/2 mile west of Thurber, Texas on Hwy 108. A metal gate on the north side of the road has a large sign for the cemetery. Go through the gate and follow the dirt road around the hill until you reach the cemetery. The cemetery is fenced with a good net fence, and has been partially restored within the last few years, but many of the tombstones have been broken and are on the ground. There were (at the time this survey was done) 225 names that are legible. About 300 of the graves are marked with stones, bricks, wooden crosses, pipe crosses, or indentations in the ground. Many Graves are competely lost. The Cemetery covers about 10 acres, and the graves are scattered. Some tombstones are written in Polish.USGS & Peggy
