Berachah Home and Cemeterycemetery32.019444, --096.993611THE BERACHAH INDUSTRIAL HOME AND THE BERACHAH CEMETERY. J.T. Upchurch (born 1870), a minister, opened a home for unwed mothers and homeless girls in the late 1890's. The 32-acre home was located near what is now Doug Russell Park on the University of Texas at Arlington campus. Nine years later he opened the Berachah Industrial Home at this site. Ten buildings were located here, including a print shop for publication of the "Purity Journal". The home closed in 1935 but this site was used until 1942 as an orphanage run by Upchurch's daughter Allie May and her husband Frank Wiese. What remains is a graveyard and about 80 graves, mostly of babies who died, some during a measles epidemic in 1914. The gravestones have only first names of the children and numbers. The cemetery is located in a clearing next to the park and southwest of the university's Davis Hall. The land was sold to the university in 1935.Frank Saffarrans

El Paso Hotelhistoric hotel32.755000, -097.331389Comanche Chief Quanah Parker visited Fort Worth in 1878 as guest of Burk Burnett, cattleman. He and a friend Yellow Bear were housed in the El Paso Hotel (Replaced by Westbrook Hotel). Neither had ever seen gas lighting fixtures. When they retired, Yellow Bear blew out the flame but didn't know to turn the off the gas. Yellow Bear was asphyxiated while Quanah survived.
