Vote for "The Declaration, v.2"

Fifteen years after Mexico won its independence from Spain, a group of dissatisfied citizens living north of the Rio Grande adopted the Texas Declaration of Independence at Washington-on-the-Brazos and created the Republic of Texas on 2 Mar 1836. The fledgling country was beset by financial, governmental and territorial woes for its entire span of 9 years, 11 months and 17 days as an independent nation. The United States was eventually convinced to annex Texas and it became the 28th state on 29 Dec 1845.
