Handbook for TXGenWeb

Position: Grievance Chair

This is a duty of the State Coordinator that should be managed by a staff member. The Grievance Chairperson is responsible for stepping in when volunteers have disagreements. Most often, a grievance is heard when a county coordinator has been dismissed but there are other ocassions when a mediator is needed.
  1. Create a Committee
    - Select two more people for the committee according to the TXGenWeb Grievance Procedure.
    - The committee should not include anyone currently in a leadership position for TXGenWeb.
    - The committee must not include either party named in the grievance.
  2. Finish the Team
    - The other four persons requested by the grievance parties will fill out the team when it's time to vote.
  3. Hear the Complaint in A Timely Manner
    - The complainant[s] should submit a grievance to the chair.
    - The chair will send copies to the committee members.
    - Request a rebuttal from the opposing party/parties.
  4. Judge Fairly
    - The committee will discuss the issue from both sides and reach an agreement about how to proceed.
    - Each side should submit further arguments or information if necessary.
    - Six members of the team will vote with the Chair voting only in case of a tie.
  5. Report Your Final Decision
    - All parties in the grievance procedure should be immediately notified when a decision is made.

The outline above pretty much says it all. The procedure is specific but has never been used.
