Supporting TXGenWeb Statewide
The Assistant State Coordinator helps the State Coordinator manage the statewide project and provides continuity when leadership coverage is needed.
Who Can Serve?
TXGenWeb may have more than one ASC. When several are appointed, one may be designated as the primary backup to the State Coordinator.
What Does an ASC Do?
The State Coordinator determines the regular duties assigned to each ASC. Because TXGenWeb is a large project, Assistant State Coordinators may help with areas such as county support, roll call, orphan counties, volunteer coordination, awards, website oversight, or other statewide needs.
Not every volunteer who assists with these duties must be an Assistant State Coordinator. TXGenWeb also has other statewide volunteer positions that support specific parts of the project.
When the State Coordinator Cannot Serve
The ASC also provides continuity if the State Coordinator is unable to fulfill the duties of the office.
If the State Coordinator leaves office before the end of the term, the designated ASC assumes the State Coordinator's responsibilities temporarily and begins the process of electing a new State Coordinator.
An Assistant State Coordinator serving temporarily may also be nominated for State Coordinator.
State Coordinator Elections
Regular TXGenWeb State Coordinator elections are prepared for in September of even-numbered years so the incoming State Coordinator has time to prepare before taking office on November 1.
Votes should be received and counted by a committee of at least three people, preferably not including the current State Coordinator.
If the State Coordinator position becomes vacant unexpectedly, the ASC begins an election to fill the vacancy.
When an ASC Steps In
While temporarily leading TXGenWeb, the ASC assumes the responsibilities of the State Coordinator until a new State Coordinator is elected and takes office.
