TXGenWeb Volunteer Guide
Welcome to TXGenWeb
Thank you for considering volunteering with TXGenWeb. Our project works because people give their time and knowledge to make Texas genealogical information freely available online.
This guide explains the basic expectations shared by our volunteers and introduces the different roles that help keep TXGenWeb running. You do not need to memorize everything before getting involved.
What We Ask of Our Volunteers
We want volunteering with TXGenWeb to be useful, rewarding, and manageable. In return, we ask volunteers to communicate, meet the basic requirements of their role, and let us know when they need help or time away.
Life happens. If circumstances keep you away for an extended period, contact project leadership so we can work out temporary help or another solution.
- Treat researchers and fellow volunteers with courtesy and respect.
- Respond when TXGenWeb leadership requests information or confirmation.
- Follow the basic requirements that apply to your position.
- Ask for help when you need it.
- Let us know if you need to step away from your responsibilities.

Volunteer Roles
Some roles are ongoing project positions. Others help the State Coordinator carry out the work of managing the statewide project.

County Coordinator
Maintains and develops genealogical resources for one or more Texas counties and serves as a local point of contact for researchers.

Oversees the project's grievance process when a formal dispute requires review.

State Coordinator
Oversees the TXGenWeb Project, supports volunteers, represents Texas within USGenWeb, and is ultimately responsible for statewide project operations.
