Volunteer Role
Supporting the People Who Keep TXGenWeb Running
The Volunteer Manager helps TXGenWeb keep track of its volunteers, welcome new helpers, and make sure volunteer information stays current.
What Makes a Good Volunteer Manager?
This role is a good fit for someone who enjoys working with people, communicates clearly, and can help volunteers feel welcome and supported.
The Volunteer Manager may also work with a webmaster or other helper to maintain volunteer-related pages.
Maintain Volunteer Records
The Volunteer Manager keeps current and historical records of TXGenWeb volunteers, including where they serve and the roles they have held.
- Maintain an up-to-date list of active volunteers.
- Keep a historical record of past service, including dates when possible.
- Help make sure County Coordinator contact information remains current.
Help with Roll Call
The Volunteer Manager may assist with TXGenWeb roll call by helping confirm that County Coordinators remain reachable at the contact information shown on their websites.
When a volunteer cannot be reached or a position changes, the State Coordinator should be informed.
Recruit and Welcome Volunteers
The Volunteer Manager helps connect prospective volunteers with available opportunities and assists the State Coordinator with volunteer changes when needed.
Recruitment information should be simple, friendly, and clear. The goal is to help people understand how they can contribute without overwhelming them with unnecessary detail.
Report Changes
Volunteer changes should be reported to the State Coordinator so official records remain accurate and, when needed, to the Webmaster so the TXGenWeb website can be updated.
Maintain Volunteer Help Pages
TXGenWeb provides guides and resources for both new and experienced volunteers. The Volunteer Manager helps keep these pages useful, current, and easy to understand.
This includes making sure recruitment pages remain inviting and that volunteers can easily find the information they need.
