Keeping a County Covered When Help Is Needed
A Temporary County Coordinator (TCC) helps keep a county site available and responsive when a permanent coordinator is not in place or needs to step away for an extended period.
Who Can Serve?
A Temporary County Coordinator must already be a TXGenWeb County Coordinator in good standing.
TCCs may be asked to help with an orphan county or to fill in temporarily when another coordinator is unavailable.
What Does a TCC Do?
The role is similar to County Coordinator work, but on a lighter and temporary basis. Typical responsibilities include:
- answering reasonable questions from visitors;
- keeping the county's main page current;
- adding queries or surnames when needed;
- checking links periodically; and
- making sure the site remains usable while it is temporarily under your care.
How Long Does Temporary Service Last?
A temporary assignment may last only a few weeks, or it may continue much longer if a permanent coordinator has not yet been found.
The important thing is flexibility: a TCC should be prepared to return the county to its permanent coordinator as soon as that transition is ready to happen.

Your real name and email address must appear on at least the county site's main page so visitors know whom to contact while you are serving as the temporary coordinator.
You Can Keep It Simple
You are not expected to expand the site extensively while serving as a TCC. You are welcome to add useful information if you wish, but the main goal is to keep the county available, functional, and responsive.
Temporary really does mean temporary. You may step away from a TCC assignment when needed, and doing so does not reflect negatively on your service to TXGenWeb.
